Did you know there are two<\/strong> castles in Japan with the name Matsuyama<\/em>, and they are both<\/strong> on the list of Japan’s Twelve Original Castles<\/a> (see #7 and #12\u2013bonus Mastue<\/em> is #8\u2661).  I learned this while my parents were visiting and we had the chance to see both<\/strong> castles!<\/p>\n\n\n

At the beginning of their stay, we met in Kurashiki<\/em> City, and planned to come to Matsue<\/em> City by train.  On the way, we stopped to see Bitch\u016b Matsuyama<\/em> Castle<\/a> (pictured above).  Located 430 meters above sea level, it has the distinction of being Japan’s highest mountain castle with an original castle tower!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Toward the end of their stay, we visited\u00a0the island of\u00a0Shikoku<\/em>, where\u00a0Matsuyama<\/em> Castle <\/a>(pictured below) is located in Ehime<\/em>\u00a0Prefecture.\u00a0\u00a0We enjoyed riding the chairlift up to the castle grounds, which offer panoramic views of\u00a0<\/span>Matsuyama<\/em>\u00a0City. \u00a0<\/span>Matsuyama<\/em> Castle is also known for having original towers and is considered one of the most prestigious castles in Japan.\u00a0 The castle’s high stone walls and long defensive corridors leading up to the keep reminded me of Himeji-Jo<\/a><\/em>!<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n
