Today is Setsubun, a traditional part of the Japanese lunar calendar celebrating the start of Spring. As in previous years, we will scatter roasted soy beans as part of a cleansing ritual.
For extra luck in 2017, the year of the fire rooster, we will eat ehōmaki (lucky sushi roll) in silence while facing this year’s direction, north-northwest.
